FAQs
Where and when does Roots Wildschool meet?
We meet weekly from 9:30am-12pm, at an outdoor space in the greater Anne Arundel County area. The exact location is only available to members, once registered. Please contact us if you need additional information. Our home base location will typically change seasonally, so kids can develop a familiarity with one place, but also experience different natural elements based on the season.
Does Wildschool meet in inclement weather?
Yes! We believe there’s no such thing as bad weather, only weather you aren’t prepared for. However, if we have to cancel due to unsafe driving conditions, high winds (over 18 mph) or thunderstorms, we will contact you the morning of. Children should come prepared for the forecasted weather. This includes getting their feet wet, getting dirty, and being in the woods.
What if I can't make it every week, if I'm sick or on vacation?
We understand not everyone will be able to join every week so we try to keep membership fees as low as possible. Unfortunately, we cannot currently offer “make up” sessions, and can’t offer partial memberships at this time.
Is this a drop-off class?
No. Our sessions are designed for parents/caregivers to be active participants with their kids! A parent or caregiver must be present at all times.
What ages can join?
Our programs are designed for kids ages 2-6, but older or younger siblings are welcome to join as well. Siblings under 24 months or 10 years and older are free.
What are your credentials?
We are nature-loving moms with a passion for outdoor adventures and learning! We want everyone in the group to be an active participant in helping make something special - we don’t pretend to be botanists or experts in early childhood education, but we believe even the youngest kids can develop into little scientists through guided observation and exploration.
What does a day at Wildschool actually look like?
Although there's never a "typical" day, we do aim to follow a predictable rhythm for each meeting. We begin with circle time for stories, songs, and to discuss our weekly theme. This is typically followed up with a guided nature walk and optional activity, craft. There will be an abundant time left for unstructured free play.
